Re: A Work of Art [F]
He shrugged slightly, but flipped back a few pages in his sketchbook to a sketch he'd done the week before of a young couple out for a picnic, "I'm never entirely sure until it's finished what I'll see." He offered the sketchbook to the other, keeping hold on the edge to make it clear that the rest of the book was off-limits.

Memphis looked at him a moment before glancing down at the picture in question, considering it. It took him a moment to respond, finally looking up. "They look rather happy..."
Re: A Work of Art [F]
"They were. I turned that one into a painting. He gave it to her as an engagement present, I believe..." Cor considered the sketch for a long moment, almost wistfully, before bringing the sketchbook back to him and continuing work on his current drawing.

It took Memphis a long moment to respond, though he was taking in the other's expression--it looked wistful and he looked abruptly away. He had to chose the romantic of the park, didn't he? Figured, since he was an artist and all that.
"It sounds sickeningly sweet," he muttered, fluttering the cards in front of him in an extravagant shuffle.

Corinth looked at him sideways, "Sweet, yes. Sickeningly is a matter of taste. They were in love, and happy in it too."

Memphis gave him something like a dark look before looking away just as quickly. "Taste? That exists in love?" He shook his head slightly. "Seems awfully foolish to me..."
Re: A Work of Art [F]
Corinth's brow rose sharply, "Again, that's awfully bitter of you."

Re: A Work of Art [F]
A pause and Memphis shrugged. "I've been around the block too many times not to be a little bitter." And had fallen from heaven to hell because of it. "And you? You believe in love and sweetness and all those things?"

"I think some people can find it. I also think that some don't, but I also don't think it should keep you from looking."

"See that? Someday could turn into bitterness. We'll get you there yet. And which one do you think you are then? One who's going to find it or who just gets to paint those that do?"

"I don't see that that's your business at all. I am content where I am, either way."

"Content... now that's a word not many hu--many say now a days. It's almost better than saying you're happy since it's more lasting," Memphis remarked, watching a child run down the park and trying not to scowl.
Re: A Work of Art [F]
Cor's gaze followed the child before glancing around for the mother, finally seeing her and relaxing slightly, "I don't know, it's possible for contentment to turn into complacency and apathy and that's a kiss of death to any emotion."

Memphis blinked at him again, looking away from the child. "Kay, no, you have the makings of a very bitter person in you too you know. And I'm not that bitter anyway. Just... had some life experiences is all." Millennia of them even.
Re: A Work of Art [F]
"Well, everyone has the makings of one. It all depends on if you allow those makings to form into bitterness. I choose not to."

Memphis considered him again for a moment, actually turning his body to look him over. "Yet," he said with a shrug.
Re: A Work of Art [F]
"And for now I'm good with that 'yet.' I like having some optimism left to me," He finally closed his sketchbook. "I should be going."

There was another pause and Memphis waved a hand. "Sure. Try to keep that optimism then, hm?"

Corinth rose, "I will. Try to clear up some of that bitterness, hm?"

Cor shook his head slightly, leaving to head back to his apartment and see what he could do about continuing on his work.

Re: A Work of Art [F]
Sticking his chin in one hand, Memphis watched him go, glancing back at the playground, and comparing his memory of the sketch to it. Well, he had to go find something else to entertain him it seemed...
Yet he lingered there for several long minutes, just staring before shaking his head and rising.
